Music Production and Entertainment Public Relations, B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Production and Entertainment Public Relations is a degree program designed to prepare qualified musicians for careers in music production and recording areas of the music industry. Music business courses are combined in an interdisciplinary curriculum which includes a minor in Communication.

Degree Program Goals

Students will:

  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of the vocabulary and terminology associated with the music and entertainment industries
  • Gain knowledge of the principles and creative practices of engineering and production techniques
  • Master MIDI and audio production technologies and techniques
  • Apply copyright and intellectual prope1iy law as related to the music industry
  • Communicate effectively within business environments (musically, orally, and in writing)
  • Develop effective public relations and marketing mechanisms for monetizing music
  • Apply effective and collaborative team, communication and management skills to complete a video process from pre-production to final product

Student Learning Outcomes

Students graduating with a BA in Music Production and Entertainment PR will:

  • Demonstrate a mastery level of knowledge of basic music history and style periods
  • Demonstrate mastery level of basic concepts of music theory, structure and aural perception.
  • Demonstrate technical skills in the use of electronic and recording media, music technology and an understanding of how to use these skills for creative ends.
  • Demonstrate mastery level of basic business skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate ideas, methods, and policies in the liberal arts and humanities for their impact on the musical and cultural development of society.
  • Demonstrate mastery level of basic business skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate ideas, methods, and policies in the liberal arts and humanities for their impact on the musical and cultural development of society.
  • Demonstrate solid writing skills in media and public relations formats, such as media alerts, news releases, PSAs, strategic and tactical public relations campaign materials and plans, etc.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and expertise of public relations functions including message development, problem analysis, strategic planning, and tactical outcomes
  • Be capable of writing and recording news stories, videos and features proficiently and correctly in styles and forms appropriate for the various communication audiences

Graduation Requirements

This degree program requires a minimum of 121 semester hours for completion.
